Through many years working in the counseling and teaching professions, I have found that by answering four simple questions, most individuals can figure out their dominant Jungian functions and therefore their Myers-Briggs temperament profile, in less than two minutes! Carl Jung (INFP in the Myers Briggs Temperament System) A few however, need to take a complete test called the Myers Briggs or, alternatively, the Keirsey Temperament Sorter. At the end of this article you will get a link to the KTS. However, try first these four simple questions Please answer these 4 simple questions: 1- Are you more an introverted, reserved type of person (I), or you are more extroverted outgoing and social (E)? 2- Are you a more abstract, Intuitive type of person (N), or you are more practical and down to earth (S)? 3- Are you more a feeling, empathic and diplomatic type of person (F), or you are more a thinker, tough-minded and direct individual (T)? 4- Are you more easy going, go with the flow, being in the moment and spontaneous (P), or you are more organized, scheduled, methodical and goal oriented? (J) The letter I stands for Introverted type, E for extroverted, N for Intuitive, S for Sensing, F for Feeling, T for Thinker, J for Judging, P for Probing. According to your answers to the four previous questions, put together the four letters indicating your dominant Jungian functions for each pair.
Are You an Idealist (NF)?
Idealists can be INFP, ENFP, INFJ or ENFJ. In the Myers-Briggs System, NFs are a minority, about 10% of the population, and their values are very different from the mainstream values of our society. This gap produces immense challenges for the Idealist. Such challenges cannot be Furthermore, the idealist has to come to embrace their type so deeply, that they truly do not care to fit in the mainstream. The mainstream is driven by values belonging to other types, which are embraced by a more numerous crowd -- the types that have a higher proportion of the population. The INFP is called the Healer
The implications of being an Idealist type can be staggering. To discover that you are an Idealist type, and truly understand what this means, can be life changing. If based on your answers to the above questions you suspect that you could belong to this group, please The Jungian Functions of the Personality Carl Jung, an INFP himself, was highly intuitive, and made extraordinary contributions to the field of spiritual psychology. Possibly his greatest and most ignored insight, was that the human personality has four pair of functions. These are: 1- Extroversion vs. Introversion (E/I) Each individual has a dominant and a subdued function for each pair. If in your case Introversion (I) dominates over Extroversion (E.) You will present as a reserve individual (introverted type). Conversely, if you are an extroverted type, you'll come across as more social. Of course you, like everytone, will always have both functions (Introversion and Extroversion) but one of them will be dominant. If in your case the Intuitive function (N) dominates over the Sensing function (S) you will come across as an abstract, intuitive individual (N type). If in your case the Feeling function (F) dominates over the Thinking function (T) you will come across as an empathic, caring, diplomatic individual. Viceversa, if your thinking function (T) dominates over feeling (F), you'll come across as a thinker, and more tough-minded person,) If in your case the Probing function (P) dominates over the Judging function (J) you will come across as an easy going, go with the flow, being in moment, spontaneous individual. Viceversa, if your Judging function is stronger than the Probing one, you'll come across as a goal oriented, organized, scheduled and methodical individual. You will always have both functions (Probing and Judging) but one of them will be dominant.

The NF Confusion In the many years working with the Myers- Briggs system as a counselor and teacher, I have consistently found that my idealist clients, especially younger ones, were significantly confused about "who they were " and what they were supposed to do with their lives. Such confusion is natural considering that the values of the Idealist are quite different from the values of mainstream society, and considering that the gentle nature of the Idealist personality wants to please and longs to fit in. In addition, because of the rarity of this type, during the formative years the Idealist will rarely have good role models who exemplify how to live an authentic life, honoring the NF nature. In this world, the majority are critical of the NF's values and priorities. Being part of a minority race can be quite a challenge, in a prejudiced world like ours. Similarly, being a minority from a typological perspective can be just as challenging, and with the difficulty being augmented by the fact that the individual is often unaware that he or she belongs to a minority group. They are often left having to endure the pain of not fitting in, or being ostracized for their style and values. If they are fortunate, there comes a time when the young idealist begins to discover their personal and soul power. Learning about their type, greatly helps in this process. If you suspect that a friend or relative is an Idealist type, consider sending them a link to this page. You may indeed make them a GREAT favor. Are you an INFP? What Does this Mean?
From the perspective of the theory of the evolution of the soul, it takes hundreds of lifetimes to attain the proper balance and truly develop the 8 Jungian functions. But a well developed soul not only has developed the 8 Jungian functions, it has also realized that the left brain with its four functions (ESTJ) should be the servant of the right brain (INFP) and NOT viceversa. In ZEN Buddhism parlance: the Buddha nature should be in charge of the ego -- and not vice-versa. This is why it is said that the INFP is the most spiritual of all types. IF you are an INFP you may have attained the proper dominance of the right brain over the left brain. However, you may still need to develop your ESTJ left brain functions. I have also met ESTJ individuals who have developed their INFP functions considerably. Therefore, they have attained a significant development of the 8 Jungian functions, with the only remaining step in their evolution being the shift from the left to the right brain dominance. Once this is attained, the chances for enlightenment are optimized. There are other types participating in our programs SP, SJ and NT types. Guardian (SJ) and Rational (NT) Types have been especially receptive to our personalized approach to education. It is always a pleasure to work with other types reminding us of the great and beautiful variety of our Universe.
